Tonto Dikeh Offers Two-Year Scholarship To Two Students

by NMN (Staff) / 1,190 Views

Tonto Dikeh, the controversial actress has made the news once again but before you start guessing what naughty things she’s been up to, hear this: the Nollywood actress recently offered two students educational scholarship.

On Sunday, December 11, 2011, Dikeh hosted about 100 children who ‘have distinguished themselves in their studies’ at a party held at Troy Lounge, Ogba Lagos. There she offered Ibitayo Adeyemo a primary 4 year old student and Femi Akintunde a two-year educational scholarship. Her reason for doing so? The actress says she decided to do this because she noticed that a lot of things are changing in our society.

‘When I was growing up most of the big companies were supporting Education with scholarships, debates and therefore students strived to be their best but all this is being lost’, the actress lamented.

The actress who starred in Uche Jombo’s ‘Damage’ had been at the centre of a media frenzy for weeks, following conflicting views about her recent tattoo.

Just few days ago, Tonto Dikeh informed us of her intentions to fete 100 brilliant students this Christmas, but she did more than just by offering to sponsor two children with a two-year scholarship recently.

Regardless of Tonto Dikeh being a controversial actress, she deserves credit this time for her remarkable philanthropic offer to help further the education of two of our young ones. I hope more celebrities will follow this trail for it is important to give back to the community.

Though the Federal Government has committed to achieving the goals of Education-for-All (EFA) by 2015 to ensure Nigeria’s accelerated development; our celebrities can help make this more successful by increasing awareness on the importance of getting education, and also helping to fund one or two students academically from now on by offering them scholarships.

So as we enter the new year 2012, I will be publishing a few stories to influence our celebrities to chip into the education and upbringing of every Nigerian child. Nigeria needs more doctors, more engineers, more idealists, more educators, more economists, better leaders, and so forth...we must change the perspectives of our youths who watch Nollywood movies and all of a sudden want to become an actor or an actress. There are better professions out there that our celebrities can help our youths discover which I envision will help build a better Nigeria.

Tonto Dikeh plans to treat 100 most brilliant students this Christmas

by NMN (Staff) / 1,380 Views

Despite her seemingly controversial nature as a screen diva, Tonto Dike still has the milk of human kindness flowing in her veins. She has concluded plans to fete about 100 most brilliant students from both private and public schools in Lagos.

Speaking on why the actress who recently delved into music is reaching out to these students, she says, “The act of rewarding brilliant students with scholarships and through other means which used to be very prevalent in those days seems to have gone into extinction.”

“There are thousands of intelligent students who need to be shown lots of love, if not for anything but for their outstanding successes. The idea is to appreciate them in any little way I can and this Christmas period provides an excellent opportunity.”

For those who probably think that Tonto is known for all the negative reasons, the sultry actress has decided to chart a new course for herself after many weeks of controversies that trailed her recently-acquired tattoo that covers over 70 percent of her back.

Her reward project for the students is billed to hold on December 10 at the Troy Bar and Restaurants, Ogba, Lagos.

Discussion: Many parents and Nollywood stakeholders believe Tonto Dikeh is a bad influence to the youths, and now she is attempting to feast brilliant Nigerian students this 2011 Christmas.

Now here are some reasonable questions:

* Should Tonto Dikeh be giving the opportunity to corrupt the minds of our already brilliant young ones by taking them out for a treat?

* Is she the type of role model we want our youths to associate themselves with? (Demonic tattoos, sexual misbehaviour, care-free attitudes, etc)

* Why don't Tonto Dikeh consider giving support to some of our helpless Nigerian women suffering from breast cancer as a humanitarian effort or even help to put some kids in school, clothe the homeless, feed the poor, etc?

If Tonto Dikeh really wants to do something credible for our brilliant students or for the country, let her offer them scholarships...even if she can only offer to sponsor one child! There is absolutely nothing encouraging in her motives in regards to this news.

Finally, there is nothing credible about Tonto Dikeh feting brilliant students this Christmas as a way to encourage or show them love for their outstanding school performances. Her intentions for our brilliant students are not clear!
