  • The Last Flight To Abuja With Omotola Jalade and Hollywood's Hakeem Kae-Kazim

The make-believe industry in Nigeria is truly now experiencing a big boom, especially with the bar raised by the likes Chineze Anyaene with her film, Ije; Ali Balogun, Tango With Me; Obi Emelonye, The Mirror Boy; Blessing Effiom Egbe, Two Brides And A Baby; and a host of others.

These films have made Nollywood producers sit up and up their games. They have also made other serious movie producers in Nollywood do quality films with good storylines and quality pictures. Attention is now being paid to details as against what we were used to in the past...

What is now left to be experienced is the shift away from storylines that are drama based to the exploration of other story ideas like sci-fiction (Avatar, Mission Impossible, Transformer), detective films like 24, Bourne Supremacy, etc.

Though many believe that the Nigerian society might not welcome such films, as tried with the movie, Kajola, a futuristic movie on Lagos, which was almost going in the direction of the American flick, 2012, but others believe that if producers look into why Kajola didn’t do well, and build on that to come up with a better one, then, such movies could be welcomed by the Nigerian people.

Coming from the success The Mirror Boy made at the cinemas, especially with the nominations and awards the film got, the producer, Obi Emelonye disclosed to us about his new movie project.

According to Obi, casts are already on set with another block busting film from him, The Last Flight To Abuja.

The film would feature Hakeem Kae-Kazim of Hollywood’s season film, 24, Hotel Rwanda, Pirates of the Caribbean; Nollywood’s sultry actress, Omotola Jolade Ekeinde, Ali Nuhu, amongst other actors.

“It is a reality/fictional story of a plane that got into trouble mid-air. So, it looked at the circumstances that lead to the set of people being on the flight from Lagos to Abuja on a Friday evening and how the crew and the passengers had to pull together to help things out.

It is the first disaster Nollywood movie. We have acquired an aircraft at the Abuja airport where this is going to be shot. We are aiming for the highest level of realism un the movie. We have to keep pushing the boundaries,” Obi, a former footballer, concluded.

  • Kate Henshaw Nuttal Divorces White British Husband

Nollywood star actress Kate Henshaw Nuttal, and her better half of 12 years, Roderick James Nuttal are no longer together!

The award-winning Nigerian actress and her British husband parted ways amicably a few months back following ‘irreconcilable differences”.

Those who know the actress and her beau claimed the separation was not bitter at all-and now they live apart (though in the same area of town in Lagos, the Lekki axis).

Blessed with a daughter, Ella who’s now 11, the couple’s lifestyles made it impossible for them to enjoy marital bliss. While Kate, now 40, is a very busy actress, moving from one location to another (across the country and sometimes abroad), and honouring endorsement engagements, Rod, also in his 40s, is the Managing Director of Ledrop Nigeria Ltd (agents for Jack Daniels and Piper Hiedsieck champagne) constantly travels.

Since both are hardly together to savour companionship, their relationship suffered strains-and after looking at the situation, they first decided to try separation and see if they could later patch things up. But they did not succeed.

But at this time, both had agreed to move on for the sake of their daughter and in loving memory of their 12-year union.

And soon, they will be heading to the courts to formalize their separation. We gathered that Kate and Rod are talking to lawyers and in no time, the divorce suit, which many close friends and associates expect to be amicable will begin.

  • I Shot Two Brides And A Baby Before Mercy Johnson’s Wedding Saga – Blessing Effiong Egbe

There is no doubt that there have been dusts raised by a movie most people have still not believed has nothing to do or has any link with Mercy Johnson’s pre marriage saga.

Tongues have wagged, stories have been written about this film, which has yet to be premiered or seen by the public.

The centre of the controversy is the resemblance the film titled Two Brides And A Baby has with Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson’s pre wedding wahala earlier this year between the months of June and July before her eventual wedding in August 27.

Mercy Johnson had before her wedding to Prince Odi Okojie on August 27 this year had issues with a woman (Lovelyn Okojie), who claimed to still be legally married to price Okojie. She came up with two children she alleged to have been the products of her marriage with the Prince, Mercy’s husband.

Though, this development almost threatened the marriage between Mercy and Prince Odi, but it finally took place.

No sooner had this Mercy Johnson’s marriage brouhaha had settled down than the movie, Two Brides And A Baby became a public issue.

While some speculated in some quarters that Two Brides And A Baby was the exact story of Mercy Johnson done in a movie by Blessing Egbe, who happens to be the producer of the much talked about movie, others believe that it could have just been a coincidence.

Nevertheless, in all of these, Blessing told Nigeria Films that, “We shot the movie in March 2011; we put out the behind the scene props on YouTube in April 2011. I conceived it a year before shooting it and it was scripted and copyrighted long before we shot it.”

Speaking further, this ex top model and actress turned producer said, I felt upset, because it was almost taking away the fact that I created the story of Two Brides And A Baby. It was being interpreted that I waited for her issue (Mercy’s) to happen and then copy it into a movie. But for me, I think it is good and bad. It just goes to show that I write about everyday happenings”

The movie is set to premiere on November 17, while it is expected to start showing at the cinemas from November 25. Blessing said that by the time they finally see the movie at the cinemas; they will see the true story of the film.

Do you think the movie is attacking MJ?
