  • Genevieve Nnaji To Appear on CNN Connect

    Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji has been dubbed the Julia Roberts of Africa by millions of fans on the continent and now she's trying to make a name for herself in the west.


    The 31-year-old Nigerian born Nnaji is the fourth of eight children and had the opportunity to attend the University of Lagos where she acted in a number of Nollywood productions.

    Nigeria has one of the world's biggest film industries and produces more even more movies each year than the United States.

    The industry outputs more than 200 movies each month and is estimated to be worth more than $250 million.

    Nnaji started acting at the age of eight and had her first stint in the spotlight in the television soap opera "Ripples."

    One of her first big Nollywood films was the movie "Most Wanted" and the rest is history. Nnaji went on to star in a number of highly successful movies and is generally considered to be one of the best paid actresses in Africa.

  • Gambia President, Yahya Jammeh Funds a Nollywood Movie with over 300,000 Pounds

    It is widely spread over the media that "In the face of economic meltdown, and massive unemployment befalling the impoverished country, Yahya Jammeh, the president of Gambia is engaged in misplaced priorities as he has just sunk almost 300,000 pounds sterling into a movie industry in Nigeria".

    When President Yahya Jammeh announced last year that he's a big fan of Nigeria movies little did his subject who he rules over in Gambia know that the amiable and fun-loving head of state has secretly reached the final stage with some Nollywood practitioners to sink about 300,000 pounds sterling into a movie, all thanks to a highly connected London based Gambian, Fatimah Jabbie, who broker the deal between then president and the Nollywood. Reports in the grapevine even suggest that Jammeh could not hide his love for the lady, as he unequivocally warned against any kissing to be extended to Ms. Jabbie, who was featured in the movie as one of the actresses.

  • Chineze Anyaene debuts with IJE: The Journey

    Award Winning Movie Director and Producer and Nigerian born Chineze Anyaene is set to hit the big screens with the debut of her world class movie titled; “Ije: the journey”. Although the dates of the world premiere have been closely guarded, the movie has been a star at recent screenings as well as recipients of several awards.

    The movie which was shot on 35mm in Nigeria and the USA has a star line up of Nollywoods finest actors including Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Clem Ohameze and is a collaboration of top Hollywood film producers, directors and actors. Below is a trailer of the movie:

    In a brief chat with Chineze, she revealed that Ije: the Journey was a product of her dissertation from the New York Film Academy where she spent years training on in-depth subjects in the movie industry. Unconfirmed sources reveal that the movie budget runs in the Millions of dollars making it one of the most expensive films directed by a Nigerian. Chineze Anyaene is set to receive her seventh award shortly.
